Heads up Mentoring
We provide a mentoring service for youth referred by police, Oranga Tamariki and other agencies. Mentoring is not about providing answers or directives, but rather being a trusted adult standing firmly in the young person’s corner, helping them to make good decisions about the difficult circumstances they may be facing.

Mentoring provides the young person a stress-free space to lift their head and discover the best of themselves. While our mentors are not counsellors, we work closely with people who are. If a young person needs more specialised support, we can refer them on, all the while staying connected for as long as they need us.
Some of the features of Heads-Up Mentoring:
- A weekly individualised mentoring session consisting of a range of multi-level activities and interactions based on the young person’s strengths and interests.
- Specialised fitness and wellbeing session with a qualified personal trainer.
- Opportunities for the young person to unpack their “stuff’ in a natural and unpressured manner.
- Simple facilitation techniques to help the young person analyse their situation and explore possible options and solutions.
- Goal-setting to help the young person move toward their hopes and dreams.
- Space for the young person to simply be a young person.
- Unhurried time for fun and laughter, usually with some food as well!
